Bushcraft Opportunities

Friday afternoon at Hoadley Hide 2026 will see patrols participate in a rotation of activities focusing on OAS Bushcraft.

For Friday, each Patrol will select either

Survival Experience

2pm Mini Pioneering Challenge
4pm Survival Experience
5pm Prep Survival Style Dinner
7pm Shelter preparation

Pioneering Challenge

2pm Mini Survival Experience
4pm Pioneering Challenge
5pm Prep Hiking Style Dinner
7pm Music/Karaoke/Rave

Both opportunities includes a “Mini” taste of the other activity

Patrols will need to nominate their preference during registration. Please note, we will do our best to allocate nominated preferences to your patrol but we do have limited places for both opportunities.

Survival Experience

By selecting this experience as a patrol you will get the opportunity to participate in an overnight survival program.

You will start your afternoon with a Mini Pioneering Challenge before moving over to the Survival Experience proper.

Activities over the course of the afternoon and into the evening will include:

  • Building and sleeping in improvised shelters using tarpaulins
  • Fire construction and lighting
  • Cooking a 3 course meal on the fire, backwoods style
  • Survival mindset talk and night navigation

There are some specialized items you’ll need if your Patrol is selected to participate in the Survival Experience (Don’t worry, we’ll send out these details close to the event so you don’t forget):

  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Sleeping bag and mat that would be appropriate for use in your improvised shelter
  • All ingredients for your patrols ‘backwoods’ 3 course meal
  • Breakfast (normal) for your patrol for Saturday morning

You would be able to sign off a number of “I can” statements for OAS Bushcraft Survival Skills 4, and a couple from 5,6, and 7.

Pioneering Challenge

By selecting this challenge as a patrol you will get the opportunity to participate in a after noon of pioneering activities and tasks.

By selecting this challenge as a patrol you will get the opportunity to participate in an afternoon of pioneering activities.

You will start your afternoon with a Mini Survival Challenge before moving over to the Pioneering Challenge proper.

Activities over the course of the afternoon and into the evening will include:

  • Designing and building constructions with ropes and spars
  • Learn how to use and care for tools including bushsaws
  • Practically understand pulleys
  • Cooking a 3 course meal on your hiking stove

You would be able to sign off a number of “I can” statements for OAS Bushcraft Pioneering 4, and a couple from 5,6, and 7.
